outdoor chairs

July 16, 2012

When I was selecting a few chairs that I wanted to recommend this summer, it wasn’t my intention to go with a theme.  Yet, here we are with a grouping of chairs, none of which have arms.

So there you have it.  Some great chairs for outdoors sans arms…

The Soleil Sling Chair from Serena & Lily  might be my personal top pick for the summer…

The Covina Lounge Chair from Lawson Fenning is my kind of mid-century simple.

Naida, from Anthropologie, an earthy nod to the Coconut Chair.

Sol y Luna Armless Lounge Chair through DWR, bold sculptural goodness.

Egg Chair through Potted.

amazing herringbone FLOR

June 28, 2012

This is amazing.  I love it.  I need to find a client for it right away!!!

The product is Walk the Plank by Interface Flor.

Due to the fact that this cabinet I am having built is nearly 8 feet long, we determined that it will need a center support.

Not thrilled, but necessary.  While discussing the best way to support the center something got lost in translation and my builder did the exact opposite of what I asked him to do.

I found this out in a picture text message late Friday afternoon, a fabulous way to start my weekend.  My simple cabinet all of a sudden looked like 2 little cabinets fused together.

I ran downtown early Tuesday to have a look and figure out the best solution.  Luckily the problem is easily solved by cutting back the center support by 3 inches and then enlarging the 2 center drawer fronts by 1/2 and inch.

Otherwise, I am happy with how the piece is coming along.  I dropped off the hardware when I went to visit as well and am very excited to see the finished product!

Here it is with the center support, not what I envisioned.  Next post it will be fixed and ready for the wallpaper!

The center support and leg are being cut back 3 inches (the thickness of the top) so that they are recessed and less prominent.  The drawer faces are being re-made 1/2 inch longer.

Here is the pull, 10 inch polished nickel.  Sleek and shiny!

So pretty!

I went down to check on the cabinet that I am having made.  It is coming along and there were a couple of details that I wanted to discuss and check on.

Overall I am really pleased with the way that this piece is going to look.  Having never covered such a large piece in wallpaper before, this is a bit of a risk for me.  I hope it turns out as good as it looks in my head!

I brought the paper to the builder’s shop and unrolled it on the top surface of the cabinet. I needed a little instant gratification, and I wanted to make sure the pattern was going to sit the way that I had envisioned.  Very exciting.

Here’s a few pics…

Here is the basic frame of the cabinet.  No drawers have been installed, and neither has the center support.

The pattern on the paper is sitting perfectly center on the top of the cabinet.  I am very pleased, this cabinet is going to be gorgy!

Here’s a little detail with an idea of what the center support will look like.  I go to pick up the pulls for the drawers tomorrow…

We used to spend Memorial Day Weekend at our house in Palm Springs.  It was glorious.  Sunny blue skies, a crystal clear view of the mountain, and lots of peace and quiet.  We don’t have that house anymore, I miss it.

We’ll be lucky if it breaks 70 in Santa Monica this weekend.  Call me a wuss, but the high 60’s are not pool weather for me.  Even though our pool here is heated, getting out of the water into a crisp ocean breeze is not my idea of fun in the sun.

I am starting to fantasize about long summer days by the pool, lounging with a beverage in hand.  Cliche?

Maybe.

this is so cute!!!

black and brass

April 20, 2012

I wear a lot of black.  The majority of my days consist of me in either all black, or blue jeans and a wife beater.  I don’t wear any jewelry, none.  I’m a simple girl.  I also think jewelry looks silly on me.

There is something appealing about the combination of black and brass.  Add a few mid-century pieces or some old worn wood and wow, yum.  Its so very sophisticated in its simplicity.

It’s just what I’m into right now.

mid-century ETSY picks

April 7, 2012

Every once in a while I share a list of my top favorites on Etsy.  I’m almost what you would call an Etsy stalker.  I stay up way past my bedtime trolling for items that I really don’t need, but must have.

If you want to know what I would buy right about now, here you go…

LOVE these matte gourd lamps from AtkinsonRow

and this chandelier from ClubModerne

I am a sucker for caned chairs, thanks to TheVintageResource for these

how about these West German brass candlesticks from PardonMyPast

this bookshelf from TheModernHistoric is my kind of simple

these awesome lamps are from TheModernHistoric too

I totally covet this Brutalist wall sculpture from ClubModerne

oh glorious pot…

March 29, 2012

Spring is here, and I am excited to be spending more time outside.

Talk of outdoor rooms and landscaping are creeping up and my mind is turning to pots.  Indoors and out, the right planter can add just the right touch to a space and impacts the look and feel of the plant inside it.  I’ll admit, some pots are so pretty you don’t even need to fill them…
