pop!

May 31, 2011

In the early 1980’s I went to private school.  We had to wear uniforms and the only way that we could express ourselves was with our socks and the boys’ boxer shorts that we wore under our unnecessarily short skirts.  I remember wearing the most absurdly bright neon socks with my plaid skirts.  I think they were bad nylon blends that folded at the ankles.  They could be ironically hip in an American Apparel kind of way right about now.

While I’m not really into neon socks anymore, I’m not really into socks at all, I do like a little pop of neon or bold color in an otherwise subtle interior.  It always feels so fresh, crisp, hip.

pool-yo

May 26, 2011

It’s finally getting warm here in Southern California.  Warm enough to re-awaken the desire to lay out by the pool with a frosty beverage and a good book.  Which in turn has me thinking about what my perfect pool setting would be.  There are so many amazing pools out there, here are a few that I love…

midnight snack

May 25, 2011

I should be tired.  I only slept about 5 hours last night and those were broken hours intermittently disrupted by my 11 month old.  Here I sit at midnight, wide awake in the darkness, my mind spinning, revving, ready to go.

Is this the true definition of motherhood?

I spend my days caring for others completely with nary a moment to myself.  At the end of the day, when the kids are tucked into their beds, the house is clean, the food put away all I want to do is stay awake in the silence and live MY life.

Maybe I am tired but I’m so busy focusing on myself and what I want that I don’t have time to be tired.  We’ll see in the morning when I have to get up and make breakfast, then lunch, then dress two squirmy boys and be out the door for school all by 9:00 AM.  I’m sure I’ll be tired then.

It’s worth it.

I’ve been working on a house since July that is every shade of cream, beige and gray that you can imagine with a bit of redwood, walnut and charcoal brown for contrast.  It will be stunning when complete but I really need a shot of color.

ETSY picks right now

May 12, 2011

I love to shop.

I keep lists in my computer of items that I plan to procure, items for my home, clothing, organizational tools, I don’t discriminate when it comes to purchasing.  I even get a little rush in the grocery store when I’m cruising the produce aisle.

It not surprising that I have a teensy tiny little humongous obsession with ETSY the online marketplace for all things homemade, collected and delicious.

You can see what I am into on my favorites page or you can check out a few of my very favorite picks of the moment here…

singita

May 5, 2011

If I ever go on safari, I am definitely going to Singita, a ridiculously gorgeous luxury game reserve in Aftica.  In the meantime, I will be taking inspiration from their beautifully decorated lodges for my projects, particularly those that have outdoor rooms.

i wish this was me

May 2, 2011

I spent a majority of the day up in a tree on a 20 foot extension ladder in the hot sun.

I’m frazzled frustrated and tired.

I wish this was me…
